What is MER?
Video MER is a medical examination through a video call. The doctor makes a video call to the proposer and does the medical checkup through the call.
A medical examination, essentially a thorough health checkup, holds significant importance in the realm of insurance, especially when applying for life and health coverage. This examination encompasses a range of assessments, including measuring height, weight, blood pressure, and conducting blood and urine tests. Additionally, the applicant, known as the proposer, engages in a conversation with a doctor to discuss their health history.
The primary purpose of this examination is to provide the insurance company with insights into potential health risks. The results play a pivotal role in determining the premium – the cost of the insurance – and whether the company can extend coverage.
The introduction of video-based examinations enhances the clarity of this process. It ensures effective communication between the proposer and the healthcare professional, verifying the proposer's identity and maintaining transparency in the proceedings.
Post-examination, several outcomes are possible. If the results align favorably, the insurance policy is typically approved. However, if there are existing health issues, the insurance might still be granted, albeit with certain conditions. These conditions could involve excluding coverage for specific health issues or necessitating a higher premium to offset increased risk. In instances where the health risks are deemed too high, the insurance company may opt to decline coverage.
In essence, the medical examination serves as a comprehensive health report, enabling insurance companies to make informed and equitable decisions regarding coverage and associated costs. It acts as a mechanism to strike a balance between providing insurance and managing potential risks in a fair and transparent manner.
